Maths Tutor & Principal
Having been a tutor for 21 years, I have honed my craft. I am warm and approachable with a good sense of humour. Most importantly, I am able to convey my subject knowledge in layman’s terms. I have always been a good communicator and, during my school days, my peers often asked me to explain things when they didn't understand the teachers’ explanations so deciding to become a teacher, and eventually a full-time tutor, was one of the easiest decisions I have had to make!
With a private school education followed by a degree and masters from University College London (a top Russsell Group university), I started out as a computer programmer in the City. However, after some time, I realised that I wanted to do something more fulfilling. So, I followed my heart, initially teaching in a private school and, eventually founding Excellence Tuition!
Whenever I meet people, they regularly tell me that they hated Maths at school and found it really hard. For me, this is such a shame as, my personal belief is that Maths is easy and enjoyable - it just depends on how it has been explained to you. The three key elements, I bring to all of my lessons are: clear explanations, straightforward methods and fun! This includes teaching exciting concepts such as the 'Algebra Onion' (unique to Excellence Tuition).
Having marked national examination papers, I have a sound insight into what examiners expect. I therefore arm my students with a Maths ‘toolkit’ so that they can approach the subject, and any exams they sit, with knowledge and confidence. I have found that my approach very often results in converting a fear of maths into a new-found enjoyment of the subject!
I’m extremely proud of what we do at Excellence Tuition and believe that the teaching we provide is pretty special! As a result, I am fortunate enough to be able to say that, I genuinely love what I do!
Coming from a family of teachers, it was inevitable that I would eventually become one too! Having worked with children and young people for over 20 years in a variety of roles, I have been able to combine this wealth of experience towards helping students to recognise and develop their creative writing skills, as well as assisting them to reach their full potential in the grammatical and functional aspects of the subject.
Being an avid Scrabble player and somewhat of a wordsmith, I enjoy encouraging students to develop and utilise new and interesting vocabulary in order to improve their grasp and usage of the English language. Seeing the progression from indifference to excitement regarding the expression of ideas and understanding of syntax gives me great satisfaction.
As an experienced examiner and moderator, I am well versed in the area of exam technique and regularly use this knowledge to enable students to approach their exams with confidence.
At Excellence Tuition, English is interesting, engaging and fun! With novel ways to teach topics such as our 'GRAVITYSPACEMOPS' creative writing template, (unique to Excellence Tuition), students are guaranteed to be enthused and challenged.
